Vision – A safe and healthy community
Mission – To promote a safe and healthy community free of violence and substance abuse through education, prevention and action.
Criminal behavior, substance abuse and gang activity are often interdependent. To help create a safer, healthier community, a small group of concerned community leaders came together over 25 years ago to create the Elgin Gang and Drug Task Force (EGDTF). The task force today has grown to encompass over 25 different community representatives who work together to help eliminate youth substance abuse and gang activity by fostering open communication and providing continuous education.
The Task Force changed its name in August of 2014 to Coalition for a safe and Healthy Elgin – CSHE, to better describe the group’s vision and mission. Coalition members attend local community centers and public schools to promote Red Ribbon Week, alcohol and drug awareness activities and much more.
