What you enjoy about working as a clinician: I really enjoy being able to work with a diverse population. I can say that I love my job because I’m able to work with people and help them reach goals that they have thought were impossible or challenging. I enjoy that I can see people grow and guide them in positive choices in their lives. It is very rewarding when a client is able to see their potential and has learned many things about them that they didn’t believe in.
Areas of Specialty: I currently work in the Passage program with women. I also work with adolescents and have worked with young adults and adult males in the past. Clients are referred through DCFS, Probation, Kane County Second Chance program, school systems in the area and self-referrals. I’m able to coordinate services with Spanish speaking families and make the process easier.
Therapeutic Approaches: At first, I try to build rapport with a client. I understand that this may be a scary experience for them and something new that they haven’t experienced. I want to make sure that they have a positive experience at our treatment facility. I have training in Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), contingency management, goal development, being culturally sensitive, and making sure that everything is client centered. I’m currently being trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy(DBT). I also have experience with the 7 Challenges curriculum for Adolescents.
